Manuel Antonio Carreño Navarro nació el 20 de julio de 1921 en Zapiga, Región de Tarapacá. Casado, siete hijos, trabajaba como comerciante y vivía junto a su familia en la población El Carmen, comuna de Conchalí. Militante del Partido Comunista, fue detenido por agentes de la DINA el 13 de agosto de 1974, a los 53 años, junto a su hijo Iván Sergio Carreño Aguilera, de 15 años. Ambos permanecen desaparecidos.
